The Greater Good is a family-run pub situated at the foot of the stunning & historic Fovant Downs.
The sprawling hillside is the proud backdrop to (regiment) badges of (platoons) stationed in, what was, an extensive military camp throughout WW1.
Sitting in the middle of Salisbury and Shaftesbury (9 miles each way), The Greater Good provides various amenities for tourists and locals alike whether you are in need of a place to stay for a night or five, looking to expand your art collection or just after a decent pint & some hearty, traditional pub food.
The Greater Good was a historic Georgian coaching inn in the village of Fovant, originally built in 1792 to serve stage coaches travelling between London and Cornwall, complete with stabling for horses.
Over the centuries it has operated as a traditional village pub and inn, now restored and retaining much of its period charm.
It’s a Grade II-listed building that was formerly known as the Pembroke Arms before adopting its current name, and now we offer offer cask ales, hearty pub food, accommodation and community events while maintaining its longstanding role as a social hub in the village.
Fovant Badges
The Fovant Badges stand as a striking tribute carved into the hillside, honouring the regiments who trained there during the First World War.
